Push & Manage Sideloaded Applications

Modified on Thu, 24 Jul at 5:01 PM

Some customers may need to sideload applications on devices, bypassing the managed Google Play store. Though we recommend to manage your private applications through the managed Google Play store to benefit from the automatic updates, configurations and security features; you can also push and manage sideloaded apps.

>> To push a sideloaded application to your devices:

From your WizyEMM console:

  1. In the Application Management > Managed Applications tab, click on the Add button found on the top left, and indicate the Application Name and Package Name of your sideloaded app.
  2. In the profile associated to your devices:
    1. In the Policies tab, enable the "Allow install from unknown sources" policy.
    2. In the Applications tab, click on the blue button Choose Applications, and add your sideloaded app to your profile.
    3. In the Configuration tab, change the Default permission policy to Grant.
  3. On Android 10devices and above, you must either:
    1. Launch and open the WizyEMM Companion app on the devices you are targeting
    2. Or, manually allow the “display over the other apps” permission for the WizyEMM Companion app on the devices you are targeting
  4. In the Device List tab, push and install the apk file to your devices, through the Install APK option, located in the Actions or Mass actionsdrop-down list.
    1. Either by uploading your APK to the console. (Note: this might take a few minutes if APK is large)
    2. Or by hosting your APK online and adding the download link to the console. Your download link must be publicly available.
  5. The devices on which you pushed the apk will receive a message asking the user to confirm application installation. The user must accept this, otherwise the installation of the app will fail.

Your sideloaded application is now installed on your devices and included in your profile applications!

Notes:

>> To configure a sideloaded application:

If you have added your sideloaded application in your WizyEMM profile, you'll be able to configure it the same way you would configure a Google Play application. Learn more.
